Safari Park - one last visit

So, D mentioned to me last week that "Hey, our passes expire on Halloween. Do you want to go to the Zoo or Wild Animal Park this weekend?" (actually kinda shocked that he was the one to suggest, but I guess he just wants to get our money's worth). I chose the Safari Park (formerly WAP) just based on the fact that it's 40 miles closer than the San Diego Zoo.

Weather was forcasted to be a high of 76. I think it was probably closer to low 80s. (edited: just checked and weather.com says it was 84). It was warm-ish, but a comfortable warm.

So we got up nice and early (like always) on Saturday morning, ate breakfast, got the car loaded and hit the road by 8:30 (which is phenomenal for us).

Miss Bug all ready to go carrying her Daisy Duck that I bought her at Disneyland 2 weeks ago:
Sydney and her daddy wore their matching hats. Hers says "Daddy's little girl". And his says Big Daddy.

Overall throughout the entire day I took pics of very few animals. However, these 2 guys were too pretty to pass up:

Now remember, I've been shooting in manual only to practice and learn and occasionally the settings will be "off" for the situation when I take the pic. This is one of those times - but I just loved the "attitude" you can almost see in Bug's walk.

I'm not sure what happened between July (our last visit) and now. We got the elephant viewing area and we parked the stroller in the shade for Belle and I, and D got Buggy out and carried her over to the side to see the Elephants. They were WAY off in the distance, but Bug screamed and kept saying "No El-pent!" and came running back over to me.

She tried to get back into her stroller seat all by herself and it just wasn't working out for her:

Here she is asking me to help her get into her seat:

As we left the Elephant area, Bug started asking "Where El-pents go?" And saying "Bye Bye El-pents". :::sigh:::

parked in the middle of nowhere:

Lunchtime! The amount of bees in the park was crazy. Every place to get snacks, food, drinks, etc.. had so many bees just buzzing all around (and the trashcans anywhere had tons of bees too). However, the bees seemed friendly as bees go. They really didn't bother us or anyone that I saw. We went to get lunch at the elevated platform place overlooking a good portion of the park. I found out on my last visit that this is where my favorite nachos are located. We ordered a chicken wrap for Buggy, thinking that D and I would finish whatever she didn't. She ate half all by herself - holding it and everything:

this child takes HUGE bites. She is still having trouble biting into some stuff due to missing most of her front top teeth.

Belle had been napping, but she woke up. So we got her out of the stroller on this break and busted out some baby food for her. She's a good little eater now.

D and I had nachos, of course. With lots and lots of jalapenos on the side. I was the lucky recipient of a big jalapeno to put on my chip. :::smiles:::

OMG even without teeth she's still so stinkin' adorable. She melts my heart.

After eating, we rode the elevator back down to check out the lions (we had by-passed because I was hungry), and we had promised Bug we would visit the little sprinkler/splash pad area for the kiddos.

A shot looking back up to the platform area where we had lunch:

Water Play Time! I came prepared! I learned. Last July, Bug had to go in the water in a onesie and socks. This time I packed her swimsuit, water shoes, and a towel, and a bag to put the wet stuff in after. Go Me! Seems no one else came as prepared as me. I heard most parents calling to get their kids out of the water before they got their clothes soaked. Being that it was almost November and not all that crowded, they only had one of the sprinkler animals working - the same turtle that Buggy fell in love with last time.

These pics were hard with all the shadows from the palm trees nearby.

This pic was really dark and shadowy, but I just love it, so I had to do some editing on it to brighten it up.

After a bit, I just tried to catch pictures of her when there wasn't shadows all over her face

Water play is pretty much as fun as being in a Jumper:

soaked Buggy!

I love love love this picture. And find the droplet "on" her tongue funny.

Bug probably played here for maybe 15-20mins. Most kids stopped in really quick, stuck their hand in, got yelled at by their moms to not get soaked, and left.

Most of the shots I got, I did a good job of avoiding getting straggler kids in the background - trust me, Bug wasn't alone in the water area.

See, here is a shot with other kids:

After prying Buggy away from the water-turtle, we dried her off and dressed her and headed to the playground. Buggy and her dad climbed up to the top and slid down the spiral slide together twice!

Annabelle has a new-found love for sippy cups! She LOVES chewing on them and seems to like it when occasionally she tips it and gets water. Her sippy cup had to come with her for her picture on the Rhino and Lion:

For this Lion picture, D was occupied with Buggy and he asked how I was planning on getting a pic of Annabelle with no help. I said "I'm going to set her down real quick, take a few steps back, take the pic, and pick her back up". It not like someone was going to grab her and run in 15 seconds. Anyway, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little on edge - you just never know.... So, I did just as I said and got it in one snap. Thankfully, the lighting and everything was already set about as good as I could get them

and now D and Buggy came over to the lion too - so I had help with sitting Belle up on top.

hee hee hee. She kills me. Look at that smirk!

Almost a family picture - just missing the mommy (who was busy taking the picture)

We left the playground with plans to start making our way to the front of the park. The gorillas were busy sleeping and being uninteresting - besides Bug cried that she didn't want to see them (just like the elephants and the tigers). So we made our way to see the ducks. Buggy likes ducks:

and some meerkats:

Ahhhhhhhh.... what a busy day. Little Bug is wiped out. Time to find the exit.

Out in the parking lot, Buggy was messing with Annabelle and playing with the mesh cover on the stroller. For what it's worth, that mesh cover came in SUPER handy when we were eating surrounded by bees and Belle was napping.
