new lens

I treated myself to the a new lens. 50mm f/1.8
It was only $100 and very very highly recommended in the photography workshop I went to.

Here are some pics I took of Sydney with it. These are after picking her up from daycare.

a good shot of what was currently going on with her teeth. This was just before the recent one fell out.

she got a hold of mommy's chapstick

Amazingly, she went to school with ponies, and came home with ponies. This rarely happens. Usually, the rubber bands are lost at school.

officially lost her first tooth

It was the one on the right that was *supposed* to have been extracted 2 days ago. It's been loose since her accident at daycare.

Last night it was just done for. She was eating a banana. Pink blood on the banana. Looked at her tooth and it was in there like sideways. D grabbed a tissue and pulled it right on out. Bug barely noticed and went right on eating that banana - which was now covered in blood after she'd bite it. She finished it anyway, and I gave her a popsicle to help slow the bleeding.

She such a little trooper. But we did give her some baby ibuprofen just in case it hurt later (since it was at bedtime when this happened).

And about her extraction. Our appt was for 09/19 at 8am. I arrived early. Sydney realized where we were and started screaming. Lady at front receptions says "no, you don't have an appt today".
"yes, we do. To get her 2 teeth extracted".
"oh, no. We're not doing that here today. Maybe you're supposed to be at the Santa Ana office? Didn't anyone call you?"
"No. Nobody called us"
(her looking at computer) "You are not scheduled until October 24th"
"What?!! We have to wait 5 more weeks, when we've already paid for this in full?!! Her tooth isn't going to make it 5 more weeks"
(Sydney still screaming in my ear, as I am holding her this whole time)
"We didn't have enough patients to justify the anesthesiologist coming in today. She wont be here until the 24th of next month"

I was fuming. I walk out, get Sydney in the carseat, and call daycare to tell them I will be bringing her today and ask if they can hold one breakfast over for her (she'd been fasting for her surgery). "We can't serve breakfast after 8am, but we do snack at 9am".
It was 8:02am.

That was a rough morning.

Little Sailors on the Beach

wanted to get my 2 sweeties out on the beach for some fun (okay, really just for pictures for me) on the beach. I was having a heart attack over the amount of sand Bug was flinging - especially on her sister.

Annabelle didn't crack a smile the entire time. I don't think she was happy that we dragged her out there, and plopped her down.

Bug gives her sister a big ol' hug!

Cheese!

Ah, Annabelle at least has a plastic fish to nom on.

Sydney ventures out to get her toes wet.

more playing in the sand:

one of my favorites of the day:

She's finally got hair! Proof right here! Enough to actually blow in the wind:

my vision of sweet sisterly pic both sitting nicely and looking at the camera once again has failed. (I really should learn this isn't going to happen for a while). This is about the best I have of the 2 of them together

Sister Love

LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture. Not sure what it is about it that just really draws me to keep looking at it. It just makes me smile. The sweetness on Sydney's face, the very Annabelle-type "look" on Annabelle's face. Awwwwwww. I really prefer the sepia, but here it also is in color:

I spent much of Sunday morning with Bug and Belle on our bed, trying to get a good "sister" shot. Difficult indeed. Daddy was around to make sure no one rolled, fell, or was shoved off the bed.

here is D when he was putting Annabelle up on the bed, and giving her a little snuggle before stepping away. I think this is so sweet.

smiley girl:

playing with her dress (which was Sydney's dress in her first xmas card picture, and then for her first 4th of July - I love this dress and it's gotten a lot of wear for it's $15 Gap clearance price). You can also tell in the picture that Belle is starting to chunk-up again:

Bug got a hold of the remote for the bed. She was using it as her "bone" (phone). Annabelle loves to watch her big sister.

squishy hugs.

Sydney thinks "Hug" means to lean the side of her face against the other person

my little toothless wonder:

here is Bug being all spokesmodel about her "bone" (phone for those of you who don't remember from above)

Her curls are still to die for

This..........Guy!

For the last 2 days Bug has incessantly sang the same line from "Twinkle, Twinkle" over and over and over and over.

"Like a diamond in this.......... (insert pause of varying lengths here)....... GUY!"

over and over and over and over.

did I mention she's repeating it over and over and over and over.

Honestly, D and I can't help but smile because it's so stinking cute.

She's also mastered the mash-up of Twinkle and Itsy Bitsy Spider.

"Twinkle Twinkle ittle DARRRRRRRR,
WASH the pider Ouuuuuuuut
Like a diamond in this...... GUY!
Itsy bitsy pider, WASH the pider out!"

1st annual / 3rd annual OISF

Orange International Street Fair.

Buggy's 3rd annual. Annabelle's 1st annual.

Honestly, not sure why we continue to go to this. It's always hot and crowded. This year it was muggily humid. Yuck. We drive around surrounding neighborhoods for 20 mins looking for somewhere to park - only to end up 7 long blocks away.

But we had plans to meet up with Alan, Cindy, and their 5 y.o. Ashley at noon. So off we went.
Bug just really wasn't feeling it this year. First she threw a fit to sit in the upper seat of the stroller - which is fine now since Annabelle meets the requirements of the rumble seat of being 6 months old.

Here is Bug at our arrival. I brought the sunglasses that matched her outfit, but she wanted the pink ones - much like she picked out her pink shoes of the day.

Annabelle riding in the lower rumble seat for the first time:

this is pretty much the face she had all day:

Greek Street and Swiss Street. At the end there, is my favorite lemonade stand and D's favorite bratwursts. Yum! Last year, Bug kept pilfering my lemonade, so this year I got smart and bought her her own. She didn't want. So D and I split it after we finished our own.

Bug was fussy. Super fussy. I finally held her for a while. While holding her, we moved Annabelle up to the main stroller seat so she could recline. Then Buggy had to sit in the lower seat and she spent her next tantrum (about sitting in the lower seat) kick the under side of Annabelle's seat. Literally kicking Annabelle in the butt. Now Annabelle was crying. I picked up Bug. D picked up Annabelle. :::sigh:::

I think she generally didn't feel good. Sore mouth, plus she barely slept the night before so she was tired added to the fact that it was essentially naptime, so this is how she looked in the hour we were there:

full on flailing our feet out of the stroller tantrum:

So we decide to cut the afternoon short. We meandered up to the north most point of the fair - to exit that way - closest to our vehicle. We are saying our goodbye's to Alan and Cindy, when both Bug and Annabelle fall asleep.

Annabelle was by far the funniest. She was in the rumble seat that sits basically upright - no recline. She conked out, head lulling forward, and holding onto her toe.

This just looks so uncomfortable:

one last street pic:

Saturday = swelling down

It's near impossible to get her to hold still, especially for a pic of her mouth, but she's definitely looking more like the kid she was. Minus teeth that is.

Tinkle!

she did it! In the potty. All by herself!

She decided to follow me into the restroom, and wanted to sit on her potty that is in there. She decided she wanted to try to go too, and she did. Her face when she heard her own tinkle was priceless! Such surprise and awe and happiness. That's my good girl.

in other news: her face is looking more normal again. Her diet for Thurs, Friday, and half of today was basically yogurt and popsicles. Tonight she managed cut up pieces of hot dog for dinner.

Most sad moment of the day: we were at an open house of a house we are interested in (and put in an offer this evening). This open house had a huge platter of cookies. Bug kept begging for cookie, so we promised her she could get one when we were done and ready to leave (I had no desire to watch her drop crumbs throughout this cream carpeted house). We finally get her a cookie, and she found out that being on the crunchier side, she couldn't bite into it. I tried to show her how to bite using her side teeth. She gave up and gave her cookie to daddy. I gave her a couple small pieces broken off of my own cookie, so she didn't have to do the initial biting.

I took a couple pics of her playing in her room today. We are going to the street fair tomorrow, so there will be more pics for sure. I will try to update later tomorrow or Monday morning.

You Should See the Other Guy

Oh wait... in this case, Buggy is the other guy.

Poor Bug was (according to daycare teacher source), walking minding her own business in the classroom, when another kid pushed her. She fell forward into a heavy wood bookcase.

When I first got the call at work, they mentioned the push, and then I heard things about blood, crying, she wouldn't let them see the owwie, and possible missing teeth. "She did have teeth, didn't she?" is what the assistant director asked me. Incident happened before 10am.

Her teeth were found. Shoved back up into her gums.

I got her a 1pm appointment at a childrens dentist. Dana was able to take her. Here is the result: Teeth are still "pretty tight", not loose. I guess that's good? They'll come back in "eventually". I've asked D to try to get a better timeframe of when I can expect this, or when I need to watch for it to know if there is trouble or not down the line. She has a hairline fracture in her upper jawbone, I guess the area between your teeth and nose. Doc said to expect swelling to get worse for a few days.

She has a follow up appointment on Tuesday afternoon.

This is how she looked when I got home from work. Blood constantly around her mouth. D kept wiping it, but it kept reappearing. So 8 hours later, and she was still bleeding in her mouth.

Her face also looks "off" to me. Especially around the eyes for some reason. The swelling looks minimal at this point, but I think there is enough up her cheeks on the sides of her nose that it's altering the shape of her face.

For dinner she had a couple bowls of yogurt, and we offered her the Minute Maid frozen lemonade cup that I had bought for her. She didn't want the cup. However, she did accept the popsicle I gave her. She polished off the whole thing right before bedtime. Hopefully that will slow the bleeding.

With the 2 of us physically holding her down, we forced her amoxicyllin and ibuprofen into her before bed. She was not a happy camper.

While D was getting her into a Nighttime diaper before bed, I caught a pic of the inside of her mouth... not for the faint of heart - so if that's you, don't scroll down.

It's a little blurry, but definitely the 2 middle top/front, and possibly a bit of the next one on the far side from the camera are pushed in.

My poor poor baby. :(

And in other pics:

here is Miss Annabelle in the outfit she wore today. Her bright 60's hippie outfit from Nana. LOL. Appropriate because today is the 1st of the month, and the new theme this month in Annabelle's room at daycare is "Colors"

And 2 pics I happened to take last night after Bug's shower, and after daddy blow dried her hair. You can actually see her teeth in the last one. Poor missing teeth.

now her "CHEESE" smile is going to be even goofier than it was.

and the irony of the week:

It's been too long since I've been to the dentist. So on Tuesday, I finally looked up my dental plan on work's website - and searched for a dentist near my home. Called and made myself an appointment (for mid-Sept when I can afford to miss a couple hours work).

When looking up the info, I noticed that only D and I were covered under the plan, I wrote a sticky note to "Add Sydney and Annabelle to dental" on the upcoming open enrollment, and stuck it to the shelf on my desk.

When I had called for the appointment, I chatted with the lady who answered the phone about what age children should start having regular visits. She said if you can get a 2 year old to sit through a cleaning, more power to you, but generally around age 4-5 is a good time to start. She said the only times they see the smaller toddlers is when there has been an accident or one takes a tumble.

2 days later, here we are. Ironic.

Oh, and since Sydney has no dental insurance, KinderCare is picking up the tab.
