Single Parenting, Bad Influences, and BFF's

So, D has been away in Maryland for 6 days for training. Admittedly, I was a bit freaked at first of the thought of getting through the week alone.

The first 2 nights were very very rough. Sunday night, Bug decided to wake up and scream at 10:15pm. Comforted her and got her back asleep in her crib by 11pm. Got myself ready for bed and was in bed by 11:30. Last I looked at the clock it said 11:47, and I must have drifted off very soon after. Then I woke to more Buggy screaming. Not the kind of little whimpers that you can wait out and see if she'll fall back asleep on her own... she was full blown screaming. I roll over and look at the clock: Midnight straight up. Ugh. This time I got her back to sleep by around 12:20am and she was fine the rest of the night.

Monday night was worse. Went to bed around 11pm. Bug woke screaming at 12:45am. I went in rocked her, comforted her and she fell back to sleep in my arms fairly quickly. Carried her to her crib and the moment I put her down, eyes pop open, she rolls over, gets on her knees, starts screaming and stands up and reaches for me. I tried just picking her up, flipping her back to her back to put back down but it was the same immediate result. I tried every variation of rocking or just repeatedly putting her back down over and over for 45 mins. Finally, at 1:30am my patience was done. I scooped her up and took her to bed with me. Blocked off her side with our new super heavy tempurpedic pillows. Curled her next to my side in the crook of my arm, and tucked my thumb down into the waistband of her jammie pants. I didn't want to fall asleep and not realize she'd crawled away - our bed is really high. The 2 of us slept like that for 2 hours. Around 3:30am Buggy was fully awake and playing with my face and cooing/smiling at me. Back to the glider in the nursery we went. Rocked her for a while. Finally, she was asleep again at 4:15am. Great. I had to get up in an hour. All day Tuesday I felt like the walking zombie I was in the first weeks after she was born. And I almost cried to myself thinking I just couldn't handle another night like that. I barely functioned Tuesday as it was. I left work 30 mins early to take a cat nap in my car in the parking garage before I had to leave to pick her up from daycare.

Thankfully, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday nights she slept like a champ all night long. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Here are the only 2 pics I took of Buggy all week long:

^ all tuckered out Tuesday night, after an evening out on the town (El Torito with Auntie Ananda). She stayed like that after parking the car, so I set the carseat in her stroller and took her around the block. Once we finally went inside, She slept like that for an hour (before I woke her for her final bottle before bed at 9:45pm)

^ and awake and happy Wednesday morning after finally sleeping through the night again

After all was said and done, and after those first 2 rough nights, parenting Bug alone all week was much easier than I expected. Sure I had to wash the bottles out myself now... and I didn't seem to get dinner, until scarfing a bowl of cereal around 9pm most nights - but Bug and I did just fine. Go Us! I even carried her around one evening in her Baby Bjorn. Made it much easier to prep my lunch for the next day, take the trash out to the curb, go out and water my lone tomato and plumeria, and even to use the restroom :::blushes::: Got love being "hands free".

And now onto Bad Influences & BFFs....

I like to chat with Ms. Kim when picking Buggy up from daycare. Apparently Buggy has a new BFF named Brianna (8mo. old) and they are inseparable. They play together all day long. Well, yesterday Bug "taught" Brianna how to pull off her socks. (Bug rarely ever keeps hers on at daycare). And Bug also taught Brianna how to blow rasperries while eating - hence blowing her (Brianna's) food out all over her shirt. Brianna was a mess yesterday.

It was really cute though yesterday when I arrived at daycare. Bug was playing quietly by herself. Brianna was napping. But Brianna must have heard me arrive, because as soon as I got Bug's carseat from the adjoining room, Brianna popped up and was standing in her crib watching and smiling. I picked up Buggy and took her over to Brianna's crib. The 2 just screached and grinned at each other. OMG it was so cute to watch.

oh, and in the comments section of her daily sheet from daycare it said: "Sydney has discovered her voice and has been using it." LOL!
