You Should See the Other Guy

Oh wait... in this case, Buggy is the other guy.

Poor Bug was (according to daycare teacher source), walking minding her own business in the classroom, when another kid pushed her. She fell forward into a heavy wood bookcase.

When I first got the call at work, they mentioned the push, and then I heard things about blood, crying, she wouldn't let them see the owwie, and possible missing teeth. "She did have teeth, didn't she?" is what the assistant director asked me. Incident happened before 10am.

Her teeth were found. Shoved back up into her gums.

I got her a 1pm appointment at a childrens dentist. Dana was able to take her. Here is the result: Teeth are still "pretty tight", not loose. I guess that's good? They'll come back in "eventually". I've asked D to try to get a better timeframe of when I can expect this, or when I need to watch for it to know if there is trouble or not down the line. She has a hairline fracture in her upper jawbone, I guess the area between your teeth and nose. Doc said to expect swelling to get worse for a few days.

She has a follow up appointment on Tuesday afternoon.

This is how she looked when I got home from work. Blood constantly around her mouth. D kept wiping it, but it kept reappearing. So 8 hours later, and she was still bleeding in her mouth.

Her face also looks "off" to me. Especially around the eyes for some reason. The swelling looks minimal at this point, but I think there is enough up her cheeks on the sides of her nose that it's altering the shape of her face.

For dinner she had a couple bowls of yogurt, and we offered her the Minute Maid frozen lemonade cup that I had bought for her. She didn't want the cup. However, she did accept the popsicle I gave her. She polished off the whole thing right before bedtime. Hopefully that will slow the bleeding.

With the 2 of us physically holding her down, we forced her amoxicyllin and ibuprofen into her before bed. She was not a happy camper.

While D was getting her into a Nighttime diaper before bed, I caught a pic of the inside of her mouth... not for the faint of heart - so if that's you, don't scroll down.

It's a little blurry, but definitely the 2 middle top/front, and possibly a bit of the next one on the far side from the camera are pushed in.

My poor poor baby. :(

And in other pics:

here is Miss Annabelle in the outfit she wore today. Her bright 60's hippie outfit from Nana. LOL. Appropriate because today is the 1st of the month, and the new theme this month in Annabelle's room at daycare is "Colors"

And 2 pics I happened to take last night after Bug's shower, and after daddy blow dried her hair. You can actually see her teeth in the last one. Poor missing teeth.

now her "CHEESE" smile is going to be even goofier than it was.

and the irony of the week:

It's been too long since I've been to the dentist. So on Tuesday, I finally looked up my dental plan on work's website - and searched for a dentist near my home. Called and made myself an appointment (for mid-Sept when I can afford to miss a couple hours work).

When looking up the info, I noticed that only D and I were covered under the plan, I wrote a sticky note to "Add Sydney and Annabelle to dental" on the upcoming open enrollment, and stuck it to the shelf on my desk.

When I had called for the appointment, I chatted with the lady who answered the phone about what age children should start having regular visits. She said if you can get a 2 year old to sit through a cleaning, more power to you, but generally around age 4-5 is a good time to start. She said the only times they see the smaller toddlers is when there has been an accident or one takes a tumble.

2 days later, here we are. Ironic.

Oh, and since Sydney has no dental insurance, KinderCare is picking up the tab.
